Multi-disciplinary Rational Drug Design

Our research focuses on the medicinal chemistry of small and large molecules that have sulfate functionalities. These molecules are novel for several reasons. They possess unique biophysical and chemical properties. They are soluble in water. They bind many different types of biological molecules.

We design, synthesize and study the molecular interactions of these molecules. Rational design utilizes computerized molecular modeling, synthesis uses traditional organic and parallel combinatorial approaches, while investigation of their biophysical and biochemical properties utilizes fluorescence, NMR, rapid and slow kinetic techniques.

In combination, our laboratory explores several inter-disciplinary areas at the interface of chemistry and biology.
