057.2 Uniform Expansion

Galaxies that are close together move apart very slowly.

Galaxies that are farther apart move apart more rapidly.

There is no center for the expansion.

An alternative picture is that every material object, including our measuring rods, is shrinking while the galaxies stay right where they are. In that picture of an expanding universe, nothing actually moves.
