Sightsinging

Developing the ability to take a new piece of music and be able to sing and/or audiate it (hear the pitches and rhythms in your head) is a vital skill for working musicians. For many students, unfortuantely, it is simply an unpleasant activity which music majors have to endure. A traditional method for improving pitch acuity is to use solfege syllables (do, re , mi, etc.). Teachers are divided on which style of solege to use: fixed "do" or moveable "do". Both have advantages - I'm not going to argue the merits of either one.
