Chebacco Pre Build Info

Here is some information I've compiled during the planning phase. Please note that this info is still largely untested, and in fact I came across an error I made on the first day of actual building. That error has been corrected, and I'll do my best to correct any new ones I come across. Builders should confirm my layouts and estimates to their own satisfaction! Layouts updated 5/3/04

There is more than one way to skin this cat :), but these are the ply layouts that I have come up with. Sheets in blue are 1/2" marine fir, in green are 1/4", and in red are 1/2" cheap ply. The bilge panel sheets are not shown in the layouts as the final shapes are determined during the building process. In total, you will need 18 sheets of 1/2" marine ply, 7 sheets of 1/4" marine ply, and 2 sheets of 1/2" ACX or other cheap ply.

Here is my take on cutting the framing lumber needed. The layouts might be hard to read - try using the zoom feature in Adobe Acrobat to get a closer look. Note that this is where I found an error or two (since corrected, but be careful!)...

Visit www.chebacco.com and get the Builder's Guide there. It is invaluable, although not as detailed as I would have liked. While you are there, download the archive or go through the old articles as they contain useful information for building and sailing the Chebacco. Unless you are an experienced builder, you will need to read Build the New Instant Boats by Payson or other basic tack and tape/stitch and glue building guides.
