Proposed Causes of Cancer

Cancer arises as a result of changes such as mutations or alterations in our genes that control normal cell growth and death.

But what causes these changes? That is the unanswered question.

Scientists have identified many factors that increase a person's chances of getting cancer :

exposure to certain chemicals, carcinogens, and radiation

tobacco products

harmful sun rays

fatty foods

alcohol

The specific causes of cancer are still unclear.

Researchers believe that cancer gradually develops over time due to a complex mix of factors related to environment, lifestyle, and heredity.

Researchers are positive that cancer is not caused by an injury, bump, or bruise and it is not contagious.
