The diagram on the right is based on a geometric construction that renders a correct perspective view of an object (here an octagonal column) from its floor plan. The method was invented by Piero della Francesca 1415—1492, a Renaissance painter and mathematician. Piero's outlook was geometric; ours is algebraic. But what he did and what we will do are not entirely mutually exclusive.
