Math 121
Perspective Geometry
Assignment #2

A viewer (with one eye closed) looks straight into a room that is 8 feet long, 8 feet wide and 8 feet tall, as illustrated on the right. The floor is covered by an 8-by-8 grid of square tiles. The wall closest to the viewer is transparent (or absent) so that the entire room is visible to the viewer.

The viewer's open eye can be located by the distances GQ, PO and QP, as illustrated. Your assignment is to use Alberti's method (discussed in class) to create an accurate perspective drawing of exactly what the viewer sees from this location.

Each person in the class is given different combination of values for GQ, PO and QP, so your drawing will be different from everyone else's. However, so that I may check it more easily, please make your picture plane exactly 8 by 8 inches (or centimeters), and do not erase your construction lines (those lines shown dashed in the notes). Your work will be graded on the basis of mathematical correctness and accuracy.

The following table indicates the GQ, PO and QP, values for each class member. Find your name, read off your values, and have fun making the drawing. Come by my office if you have questions.
