Abstract

An important factor in supercrit. fluid dyeing is the soly. of the dye in supercrit. carbon dioxide.  Our measurements show that the soly. of C.I. Disperse Red 60 in supercrit. carbon dioxide is significantly enhanced upon addn. of the polar cosolvent ethanol or acetone.  The soly. enhancement is attributed to the formation of hydrogen bonds between cosolvent and dye mols.  Obsd. soly. behavior is correlated using dil.-soln. theory with lattice-fluid-hydrogen-bonding model.  Needed phys. and hydrogen-bonding mol. parameters are estd. using the exptl. data.
