Modeling the Effects of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids on the Inflammatory Response in Crohn’s Disease

Abstract
Abstract: Several murine studies have shown an anti-inflammatory response when specific polyunsaturated fatty acids are included regularly in the diet. It is believed that the fatty acids serve as a specific ligand that activates the Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptor (PPAR) which is located on several types of cells active in the inflammatory response to modify the process. An ordinary differential equation model of inflammation specific to Crohn’s disease with dietary interventions and PPAR receptor dynamics is being developed to describe this process, and preliminary results will be discussed.
