SUMMER PROGRAM FOR UNDERGRADUATES’ RESEARCH (SPUR)
IN PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY

s

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at VCU has a research training program since 2005 for undergraduate students to participate in the research projects related to the cellular and molecular mechanisms of coronary heart diseases, high blood pressure and end-stage renal diseases.

The Goals of this program are:

• To provide undergraduate students with experience of mentored research in basic biomedical sciences.
• To provide exposure to the skills that are required for a career in basic biomedical research, including experimental designs, analysis of results, critical appreciation of literature and data presentation.
• To provide the students with the first-hand information for them to determine if pursuing a graduate degree (MS/PhD) in basic biomedical research is an appropriate choice.

Term:  10 weeks (from June – August)
Stipend: $10-$12/hour
Eligibility: 3nd and 4th year undergraduate students from health or biomedical sciences
Requirements: Application includes resume, college academic transcripts, and contact information of two references.

Application should be submitted to:

Krishna Boini, Ph.D
Assistant Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology & Toxicology, VCU
1220 East Broad Street, P.O. Box 980613
