Methods:

80 English as a Second Language (ESL) recruits (2 groups)

40 ESL Army recruits as controls

15 High School learning disabled students, no controls.

Ear dominance determined by dichotic (CV) listening
Reading instruction as usual, except for the use of the lateral reader reading two hours per day, five days per week.

Standard reading assessments during two month period, controls balanced across teachers and time of day.

Design:

Fully digitized speech and music

Music is binaural until speech activates ear suppression

Music is lateralized until speech terminates

Music fades away from awareness in minutes

Concept:

Music into left ear to right brain

Speech (reading voice) right ear to left brain
