Question: Why are there so few Republican scientists? Answer: The point of science is to seek the truth and Republicans don't like the truth and don't recognize it when they see it.
If you look at all the people suffering financially and
laugh at them because you are fine,
then you might be a red-n . . . err Repbulican
If you call "diversity" that "horrible
immigrant problem",
then you might be a Republican
If you think it is just fine to take a gun to a
political rally, especially when the politicians aren't your skin color,
then you might be a Republican
If you think that the government runs the best military
in the world and that has nothing to do with the fact that it would run the
worst medical care in the world,
then you might be a Republican
If you think it was just fine for John McCain to
reverse his position on torture (from the US should not do it - to ok it's just
fine since I am no longer likely to be captured),
then you might be a Republican
If you think that your immigrant ancestors coming into
this country have NOTHING to do with the current immigrants trying to escape
horrible conditions in their own country,
then you might be a Republican
If you think that lying, cheating, and fooling stupid
people is the best political strategy,
then you might be a Republican
You know that your neighbor, Jack, is in dire straits
financially. There is a tree on your neighbor's property that is about to
fall over into another neighbor's (Bill) yard.
Your response:
a) To offer to pay for it since you know your neighbor can't - (0 points)
b) To offer to help take up a neighborhood collection to pay for it (you agree
to pay half) - (1 point)
c) To ignore the situation since it is not your problem - (2 points)
d) To tell Bill to find a lawyer so he can sue Jack when the tree falls - (3
points)
e) To laugh at Jack since your yard is fine - (4 points)
Your friend Steve is running for a president of the
local neighborhood committee. Steve is the same skin color as you, speaks
the same (English only) language, and works at a local bank and is therefore an
upstanding citizen. As you canvas the neighborhood for him, many people
seem to have the wrong, in fact opposite idea of where he stands on the issues.
Your response:
a) To correct them each and every time on every point where they have
misunderstood his position - (0 points)
b) To hand them a flier and direct them to where they can find out details of
his opinions - (1 point)
c) To state his positions in generalities that everyone would agree with
(example, families are good) - (2 points)
d) To only correct the ones that are opposed to what they incorrectly think are
his positions - (3 points)
e) To tell each person what they want to hear, as long as they agree to vote for
Steve - (4 points)
You join a community group and quickly find out that
they share all your values. You learn that there is a new business in the
neighborhood that clearly does NOT share the same values. You spend weeks
with the community group trying to find ways to encourage the new business to
change its values, to no avail. Your group finally has settled on bombing
the building when no one is in it.
Your response:
a) Go immediately to the police and give them the names of everyone in the
group - (0 points)
b) Tell the police anonymously, so as not to disclose either your name or any of
your friends - (1 point)
c) Leave the group but do nothing else - (2 points)
d) Continue to go to the group but do not participate in the planning - (3
points)
e) Participate in the planning because you think this is the best way to avoid
getting someone killed - (4 points)
Your small business has decided to vote on the
healthcare plan that everyone must adopt. You have a spouse and two
children. The person that shares your office has no family and has
multiple sclerosis. Plan A is the cheapest for you and covers all the
basics. It covers pre-existing conditions, but those people have to pay
more. Plan B is a little more costly than Plan A, but will cover diseases
as long as they are not pre-existing. Plan C is very slightly more than
Plan B, but also covers pre-existing conditions. For Plans A-C, families
pay more than single people. Plan D is the same as Plan C, except that
single people have to pay the higher family price indicated in Plan C.
Your response:
a) Vote for Plan C since that is the fairest for everyone - (0 points)
b) Vote for Plan A - (1 point)
c) Vote for Plan B - (2 points)
d) Vote for Plan D - (3 points)
e) Tell your boss that you will start an office revolt unless they adopt Plan D-
(4 points)
Your small business has not made as high a profit as
expected this year. The boss tells everyone that they have several
choices: Either everyone takes a 20% pay cut, half the people take a 10%
pay cut and 1 person loses their job, or 5 people lose their jobs.
Your response:
a) You agree to take the 20% pay cut so no one loses their job - (0
points)
b) You agree to take the 10% pay cut so that only 1 person loses their job (not
you) - (1 point)
c) You vote for the 10% pay cut, as long as you are not part of the 50% of
people to which the pay cut will be applied - (2 points)
d) You refuse to take a pay cut since you cannot be fired - (3 points)
e) You threaten to leave unless you get a salary raise, even if it means that 10
people will lose their jobs - (4 points)
If your score is 0-5, you are a Democrat
If your score is 6-10, you are a Libertarian
If your score is 11-15, you are a disgusting Republican
If your score is 16-20, you need to go clean your gun, be sure to look down the barrel while doing so.
Don't get overly excited - this was just a joke.

A glaring problem with Republicans in recent years is the hypocrisy. This is particularly true for gay people. Honestly I think it is completely gross to have sex in a public bathroom, but I really wouldn't care if Larry Craig did it, if he wasn't a proponent of anti-gay legislation and didn't go around trying to stereotype gay people as: Moral lepers, under a foul sexual compulsion that dooms them to shuffle mindlessly from one public toilet to another, anonymously sodomizing one another and thus raining down a catraract of vile, incurable, agonizingly fatal diseases down on the heads of their innocent and unsuspecting wives.
Not all gay people are like Larry Craig, his characterization might have come from his own behavior. Being closeted and publicly anti-gay doesn't give you much room to interact with other gay people beyond the sexual behavior.
Craig helped enact the "don't ask, don't tell" policy for the military. I'm sure he would like people to stop asking! He voted for the 1996 "defense of marriage" act. This was anti-gay. He voted against a 1996 bill prohibiting employment discrimination based on sexual orientation - and this bill did indeed fail - by one senate vote. Voted YES on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (Jun 2006) Voted NO on adding sexual orientation to definition of hate crimes. (Jun 2002) See more of his disgusting positions here.
Then there is Ted Haggart. An American evangelical preacher. If he had never made statements against gay people then no one could condemn him for being gay, other than perhaps his female wife. But he was a 'leader' of the anti-gay movement and a close dubya (as in Bush) confidant. Hear his own words here. I'm sure those 3 weeks of intensive counseling "cured" him of being gay. Despite what he did, the Church continued to pay him through 2007, at $138,000, not including benefits.
Then there is the truly repulsive Mark Foley, whose actions demonstrate that he is a pedophile. Worse than Foley himself are the staff and other Republicans (including Hastert) who KNEW what was going on, and allowed it to continue.
So all this is old news - why am I bringing it up now? The hypocrisy continues with closeted Republicans - see web sites below. Also the hate continues, as Prop 8 in CA passed, as did other hate legislation in other states.
The group at the bottom continually changes. Why can't we learn this lesson? It seems that whenever the most disparaged group moves up one notch, instead of promoting fair treatment for all people, they take incredible glee at stereotyping and mistreating the new bottom group. It is such a simple concept to understand that just because it is gay people today, it very well could be middle aged white men with blue eyes tomorrow. Have you never heard of the blue eyes/brown eyes lesson taught to elementary school children? Just because you are at the top today, don't get too comfortable. Perhaps, instead, fight for equal treatment for ALL HUMANS, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, skin color, hair color, eye color, etc.
REPUBLICAN Governor Schwarzenegger on the passage of Prop 8 in CA: "It's the same as in the 1948 case when blacks and whites were not allowed to marry. This falls into the same category." One Republican who understands the meaning of equality.

IT IS A GREAT DAY FOR the USA!
For the first time in 8 years, I am proud of my country. It is fantastic that the American Public is not as stupid as Republicans thought they were. I am even proud of my state of Virginia. They didn't buy the onslaught of misleading and lying ads we were bombarding with in the last few days. VA has just risen above the rest of the South!
Blue is a beautiful color.

Q: In 2002, long before Bush’s current travails, you wrote, “Mark my
words, he will leave office the most unpopular President in history.” How did
you know that then?
Gore Vidal: I know these people. I don’t say that as though I know them
personally. I know the types. I was brought up in Washington. When you are
brought up in a zoo, you know what’s going on in the monkey house. You see a
couple of monkeys loose and one is President and one is Vice President, you know
it’s trouble. Monkeys make trouble. (Aug. 2006)
