I am a social psychologist at Virginia Commonwealth University. I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNC Chapel Hill. During my sophomore year in college, I took a social psychology course from Ximena Arriaga, who was a great teacher and who recommended that I work as a research assistant for course credit. So, in my junior year, I joined Caryl Rusbult's close relationships research lab as a research assistant, and I completed an honors thesis with her the next year. I spent the next five years getting my PhD in the social psychology program. I have worked at schools in North Carolina and California, and I have been here at VCU since 2005.

Things That Jody Enjoys

• Traveling to tropical destinations with my husband, Jeff. Favorite recent trips were to the Galapagos Islands and Akumal, Mexico.
• Visiting my nieces, who are 3 and 5 (and their parents, my sister and her husband).
• Reading fantasy book series. All time favorites are Lord of the Rings, Dune, various Arthurian legends, and Enders Game. More recent favorites are Harry Potter and Twilight.
• Making web sites! I maintain and helped design the web site for the VCU Psychology Department, and I designed various VCU web sites like African American Studies, Clark-Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development, Center for Cultural Experiences in Prevention, Social Psychology Graduate Students, and the Green Research Lab.
