OK, this is my passion. I have been and still am a fan, a player, and a coach.

I do enjoy other sports, particularly following my oldest son on the soccer field.

Movies

Movies are another interest, particularly science fiction movies. No one is likely to accuse me of having sophisticated taste in movies, but here is a sampling of some older movies I particularly like:

• Colossus: The Forbin Project -- probably my all-time favorite science fiction movie. 90% of the other 127 people that have seen it agree.
• The Blob -- great 1958 Steve McQueen classic
• Them! -- 1954 ants, big ones!
• Invasion of the Body Snatchers -- 1956, it still scares me
• The War of the Worlds -- 1953 film version of the H.G. Wells novel
• The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day -- hoping Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines will be as good
• The Matrix -- and soon The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions

Not all my favorites are science fiction, though:

• To Kill a Mockingbird -- for once the movie was as good, almost, as the book
• Guess Who's Coming to Dinner -- great impact in 1967
• Sleepless in Seattle -- don't all fans of "The Terminator" love this movie?

Books

I do enjoy reading. Perhaps after the kids are off to college, I'll have time to do this a little more. Two current favorite authors are:

• Patricia Cornwell -- Kay Scarpetta always fascinates me
• Michael Crichton -- novels that are hard to put down
