Dr. Tafreshi received his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from KNT
University of Technology in Tehran (1990-1995), and University of Tehran
(1995-1997), respectively. He then moved to Europe to obtain his PhD from
Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland (1997-2000). He served as a
Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the University of Milan, Italy (2000-2002)
and the Nonwovens Cooperative Research Center at North Carolina State University
(2002-2004). He was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the College of Textiles in
North Carolina State University (2004-2007) prior to his appointment with
Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Tafreshi’s research is in the areas of
Computational and Experimental Multiphase Flows. His main focus is on
Single/Multiphase Fluid and Particle Transport through Fibrous and Porous Media.
He is also active in the field of High-speed Waterjets and Nozzle Design. He has
more than 80 journal publications in the above and other areas of Thermo-fluid
sciences, including Heat/Mass Transfer and Molecular Dynamics Simulation of
Granular Materials.
