Dr. Tafreshi received his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from KNT University of Technology in Tehran (1990-1995), and University of Tehran (1995-1997), respectively. He then moved to Europe to obtain his PhD from Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland (1997-2000). He served as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the University of Milan, Italy (2000-2002) and the Nonwovens Cooperative Research Center at North Carolina State University (2002-2004). He was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the College of Textiles in North Carolina State University (2004-2007) prior to his appointment with Virginia Commonwealth University as Assistant Professor (2007-2012) and and currently Associate Professor (2012-Present).

Dr. Tafreshi’s research is in the areas of computational and experimental multiphase flows. His main focus is on single/multiphase fluid, heat, and particle transport through fibrous and porous media. He is also active in modeling interfacial phenomena and superhydrophobicity. He has more than 100 journal publications in the above and other areas of thermo-fluid sciences, including liquid jets and nozzle flows.
