Geoff Hugo

Geoff Hugo is the lab PI. He is an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology in the Division of Medical Physics at VCU, and is the Director of the Medical Physics Graduate Program. He graduated from UCLA Biomedical Physics (Ph.D., M.S.) and Pennsylvania State University (B.S., Physics).

Elisabeth Weiss

Elisabeth Weiss is a Radiation Oncologist with clinical interests including treatment of lung cancer and benign diseases. Dr. Weiss received her M.D., medical doctorate degree, and academic teacher's degree in Germany. Before arriving at VCU in 2004, she was on the faculty at Goettingen University. Her research interests include clinical trials in lung cancer, as well as translational research into four-dimensional aspects of radiotherapy and development of image guided adaptive radiotherapy..

Chris Guy

Chris Guy is a graduate assistant and Ph.D. candidate who joined the lab in 2012. Chris graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2012 with a B.S. in Physics with Honors and minors in Mathematics and Computer Science. His research currently involves deformable image registration of lung in the presence of atelectasis and other large geometric tissue changes.

Nicky Mahon

Nicky Mahon is a graduate assistant and Ph.D. candidate who joined the lab in 2015. Nicky graduated from the University of Virginia in December of 2009 with a BS in Physics and a minor in Theater Arts. She completed her MS in Medical Physics at VCU in 2013. Nicky is working on using multi-modality image appearance for predicting response to therapy and to assist physicians with target definition. In her free time, Nicky enjoys fencing saber, embroidery, musical theater, tango, learning Chinese.

Matthew Riblett

Matthew Riblett is a graduate assistant and Ph.D. candidate who joined the lab in 2013. Matt graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2012 with a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering. For his Ph.D. project, Matt is working on improving 4D imaging reconstruction using machine learning. When not in a classroom or a lab, Matt enjoys volunteering for US FIRST, vegetarian cooking and baking, spending time with friends, and playing with his dogs.

Shufei Chen

Shufei Chen received her Ph.D. in 2016. Her thesis is entitled, "Markerless tracking of lung tumors in cone beam CT projections". She is currently a staff physicist with Elekta, Inc. in Shanghai, China.

Christian Dial

Christian Dial received his Ph.D. in 2014. His thesis focused on, "Adaptive radiotherapy for lung cancer". He completed a medical physics residency at Univ. of Colorado in 2016 and currently works as a medical physicist in the UC health system.

Scott Robertson

Scott Robertson received his Ph.D. in 2013. His thesis was on, "Automatic block-matching registration to improve lung tumor localization during image-guided radiotherapy". He completed a post-doc at Johns Hopkins and currently works as a medical physicist in York, PA.

Ahmed Badawi

Ahmed Badawi joined our lab in 2009 as a research fellow, working on statistical shape models to improve adaptive radiotherapy of lung cancer. Prior to joining us, Dr. Badawi was Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Cairo University, Egypt. After completing his fellowship in 2012, Dr. Badawi returned to Cairo University as Chair of the Biomedical Engineering department.
