BioBIKE: What is it?

Alignment of similar genes

BioBIKE instances contain all the sequences on site for rapid manipulation, but it also is possible to obtain sequences and services from the outside world. Here, the user obtains from NCBI the sequences identified by a list of accession numbers, saving them in a variable called my-favorites.

It is now possible to work with the sequences. The LENGTHS-OF function is used to return a list of the lengths of the four genes obtained from NCBI.

The genes are aligned, using the ALIGNMENT-OF function, then the alignment is used to create a phylogenetic tree. The workspace shows the TREE-OF function in the midst of being constructed. The tree will be constructed using the program PHYLIP, but the user does not need to know the peculiar syntax of that program.
