Genetic Poetry Archives: Regulation and Development

A represser met with an inducer
And thought the time ripe to seducer
But -- a glance down his tights --
      He had no binding sites!
So poor lacIs had to excucer.

An enhancer with one protein bound
Had some trouble in getting around
      "More binding -- I've gotta,
Or I won't reach that TATA!"
So he nabbed the next protein he found

A transcript is out for a splice,
Sees a ribozyme -- thinks "Very nice!"
Says he, "Are you marry yet?"
      "Hey, let's form a lariat!"
But she's self-catalytic -- no dice.

An elephant said to a flea,
"Our genes are as like as can be!
      With same regulation,
      Crosssubstantiation,
And I would be you and you me!"

For lambda the choice is lysogeny
Or lysis, and thus gain some progeny.
      When put on the spot,
      To be or be not,
It’s environment over ontogeny.

The pair of Jacob and Monod
had lined up their genes in a rod
      Said Francois to Jacques,
      "This looks just like lacques!"
