Spring 2012

I. Basic Information

A. Your name
II. What is a gene?
A. How far have you gotten in the tutorial, "What is a Gene?"?
You can answer by referring to the last item you addressed (e.g. III.3).

B. Provide a statement that describes as accurately and completely as possible your current understanding regarding how a cell determines where a gene begins.

Consider how comfortable you are with the following topics (as defined by the tour What is a Gene?):

C. The relationship between a gene and a genome?

D. The coordinate system ?

With this in mind, how could class time best be spent to meet your needs?

III. BioBIKE Basic Syntax tutorial
There are many resource that have been put at your disposal to help you get started using BioBIKE (and if you don't believe me, click here).

A. Which have you made use of?

B. Which have been useful to you? In what way?

C. Which have not been so useful? Why not? How could they have been more helpful?

D. If you could magically call into being something that would be the perfect aid to help you, what would it say?

E. Would you like to consult with a TA regarding BioBIKE?

IV. BioBIKE mechanics
This is the beginning of a long haul. Don't feel down if you don't yet see the end.

Consider how comfortable you are with the following issues:

A. The process of bringing functions from the pallette to the workspace?

B. The process of finding functions from the pallette?

C. The process of filling in values for function arguments (the white boxes)?

D. The process of choosing options to modify the workings of a function?

E. The notion of variables that you define

With this in mind, how could class/lab time best be spent to meet your needs? Also a general temperature reading: how do you feel right now about the prospect of programming?

V. Put here any miscellaneous comments, questions, suggestions, concerns you may have

Thanks!
