I. Basic Information

A. Your name
II. Tour of Karlin (2001)

  • How far did you get?

  • Do you understand in principle how the methods shown in Box 1 of the article might be used to identify such regions?
  • Do you understand how to read Fig. 1? What is the meaning of the X-axis? ...the Y-axis?
  • Do you understand the meaning of GC-FRACTION and how to calculate it, both using the GC-FRACTION-OF function and using more basic functions?
  • Were you able to generate a graph of GC-fraction vs position in the DNA? Do you understand what it means?
  • Do you understand the trade-off in using bigger or smaller fragment sizes to look for anomolous GC-content?

III. Article Summary
  • Have you read the description of what an article summary is about? (see link on calendar for March 21)
  • Have you found a suitable research article? If you're at all unsure about the suitability of the article, you might consider sending the article to me.
  • Are you experiencing any difficulties in figuring out what you need to know in order to summarize a single experiment?
  • Have you or are you almost ready to send me a rough draft of the summary?
