BNFO 301
Introduction to Bioinformatics
What is a gene?
Spring 2007

To get acquainted with a primary tool of this course, BioBIKE (Biological Integrated Knowledge Environment). This time out, we're going to use it to do something interesting. Later we'll analyze what we did and try to draw general principles about the resource.

Be sure to take notes as you go through the tutorial, jotting down what confused you and what helped. Your record will be important. You can download this Word file as a template. Use it (or something like it) for all future interactions with BioBIKE.

To get to BioBIKE:

  • Go to the public BioBIKE login screen
  • Login as yourself
  • Provide an e-mail address, but no need to give a password
  • Click the VPL radio button (VPL = Visual Programming Language)
  • Click New Login
  • Enjoy!

Fill out questionnaire on your experience before Monday.
