I conducted research with his graduate students for several months, growing specific strains of fungus and documenting the research.  The experience was valuable because I worked closely with colleagues in an academic environment, and I gained research experience.

Leadership

Three Varsity Letters for Women's Soccer

(one letter from University of South Alabama, two letters from VCU)

I have played Division I women's soccer throughout my college career.  My freshman year I played for the University of South Alabama.  My sophomore year I transferred to VCU and I have been a starting, scholarship athlete for the past two years.

Team Captain of VCU Women's Soccer Team in (2000)

In the Fall of 2000 my team mates and coaches voted me as team-captain for the VCU women's soccer team.  As the captain, I represent my team to referees on the field.  I work closely with my coaches to uphold morale, and I meet with players individually.  I have also run training sessions for the team when the coaches are travelling

Leadership Committee for Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship at VCU (2000)

I was voted onto the leadership committee of the VCU chapter of Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship for the 2000-2001 academic year.  My title is "Athletic Outreach Coordinator" to promote student-athletes involvement with Inter-Varsity.  I attended a leadership conference in May to prepare me for the year.

Community Outreach

Volunteer work with the Human Society

Throughout high school and in the summer, I have volunteered walking dogs at the animal shelter in my hometown.

Volunteer work with the homeless of Richmond

I have been involved with passing out food to the homeless community of Richmond for the past two years.  Through Inter-Varsity I have made and passed out food.  I have also passed out food on my own and with members of the VCU soccer team.

Clinics for inner-city children

I have worked through the VCU athletics department at several clinics for inner-city children.  We are responsible to coach and entertain the children for a few hours before basketball games, and then supervise them during the game

Clinic with the Richmond Kickers

In April of 2000, I volunteered in a 5-week program for inner-city children, which was sponsored by the Richmond Kickers.  I coached the children in basic soccer skills, and helped referee a tournament in the last week of the program

I have volunteered with this organization to pass out food to the homeless
