Working wih Prof. Eastman on comprehensive exams
I can supervise students in a range of fields including an overview of early American and Atlantic history; the comparative study of women, gender and sexuality; American cultural and intellectual history; the history of nationalisms; and the study of oral, print and visual media and its reception. I prefer to meet with students monthly to discuss their reading and to draw out important themes that will potentially appear on the exam. My main concerns in these meetings are to see that the student develops a sense of how this specific field has developed and how historians' questions have changed over time, as well as to find ways that this literature can assist the student in thinking about dissertation work and research.
