      Associate Professor of Art Education in the Department of Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

    Steve Carpenter is Editor of Art Education (The Journal of the National Art Education Association) and serves on the editorial board of The Journal of Cultural Research in Art Education.

    His scholarly research in art educatioin is concerned with contemporary and ceramic artworks, hypertext curriculum theory and design, and cultural literacy through visual inquiry. He has exhibited ceramics, mixed-media, installations, and performance artworks in local, regional, national, and international exhibitions. Carpenter has made numerous presentations on his research at professional conferences, including the Virginia Art Education Association, the National Art Education Association, Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education, National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, and Innovations in Education: The Arts and Science Partnership Symposium in Doha, Qatar hosted by the Qatar Foundation.
