Sunday 28th Jan 1996. Regarding the problem of fitting cards from a MicroVAX-II/VAXstation-II series system into a 3400 we successfully managed the following last night. Placing a DELQA card into the Q22 (ie A/B) slots of a 3400, a QBUS scan from the chevron recognised this card without any problem as did VMS 5.5-2. More significantly... Fitting two Quad height Video Boards (QDSS Base/4 Plane adaptor), ie. VCB02, from a VAXstation-II into the Q22-C/D backplane of a VAXserver 3400. Initially on boot without the VR260 (but a VT220) connected we got an error ?62 before the KA640 disagnostics completed, we then got a "Normal operation not possible" message and then chevron. However we managed to do a console boot no problem...and the DECwindows video drivers loaded ok. This problem cleared up when we connected the VR260 though. And it booted without bailing out on DIA0: and up she booted... perfectly.. Ever heard of a VAXstation 3400 ?? Well, she is one now!! Note I have read about Q22-C/D problems, esp the unavoidable ones with quad height -II cards. However no mods needed to be made to these to work. I should note that we fitted the DELQA into the A/B slots *before* we fitted the VCB02 if that makes any difference. Pity can't fit the old MS630's into the 3400... :-( no that would be pushing luck...!!
