Los Niños Bien Educados

The VCU Humanities and Sciences Effective Parenting Initiative (HASEPI) and The Center for Psychological Services and Development (CPSD) invite you to a workshop to introduce professionals to

From the Center for the Improvement in Child Caring (CICC) www.ciccparenting.org

Los Niños Bien Educados is a special parenting skill-building program for Spanish-speaking and Spanish-origin parents. The program provides parents with a variety of methods for raising children to be Bien Educados. This twelve session program is respectful of the types of adjustments that Hispanic parents make as they raise their children in the United States. It is also respectful of Hispanic family traditions and the expectations that Hispanic parents often have of their children.

Parents learn new ideas to help them describe and understand their children's behaviors. They learn special parenting methods: effective praise, how to ignore, mild social disapproval, show and tell, first/then, family expectation platicas, time out from parental attention, and a special incentive method.

The instructor teaches and demonstrates the methods. Parents practice the methods in class and then apply them at home. A variety of dichos help to illustrate the methods.

Parents report that the program not only helps them help their children become Bien Educados but also improves the overall quality of family life.
