Service & Outreach Activities of Prof. Baski

Biographical Info.          Publications          Research          Teaching          Service

Over the years I have provided substantial service ranging from the departmental to University level and within the community. The VCU Department of Physics comprises twelve faculty and offers a B.S. degree in Physics and an M.S. degree in Physics/Applied Physics. The department maintains a high research productivity while supporting a growing service course load (~16,000 credit-hours in 2008-09) at a university with over 32,000 students. The research programs of our eight tenured/tenure-eligible faculty have resulted in the publication of ~40 articles/year in peer-reviewed journals. I have been Departmental Chair for the last three years and have duties that include: departmental budgeting and fiscal oversight, course and laboratory scheduling (~2,200 students per semester), annual evaluation of faculty and staff, hiring of faculty and adjunct instructors, and preparation of annual reports. My role as departmental Chair has benefited from my prior experience with the undergraduate and graduate academic programs and my service at the College and University level. It is an exciting time to be at VCU, now the largest university in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and to continue to build on its record as a premier research institution in an urban environment.
